The National Real Estate Award, promoted by Magazine Imobiliário, has selected Casa na Comporta by Sabrab as a finalist among more than 90 entries.

It stands as one of the most relevant recognitions in the landscape of contemporary architecture in Portugal, highlighting projects that engage with the region’s unique surroundings while reinterpreting local tradition through an innovative approach. Set within an exceptional natural context—between rice fields, pine forests, and the Atlantic—the awarded house reflects an exemplary balance between sustainability, aesthetics, and functionality.

In this edition, the jury reviewed proposals from some of the most prestigious architecture studios, including names such as Aires Mateus, Promontorio, Carrilho da Graça, Atelier Bugio, João Mendes Ribeiro, DepA Architects, Fala Atelier, Ricardo Bak Gordon, OODA, and Manuel Aires Mateus. This diversity of approaches showcased the creative richness of the sector, with projects exploring local materials, bioclimatic solutions, and a strong integration with the territory.

Among the finalists—a group we had the honor to be part of—there was a remarkable set of high-quality proposals, reflecting the rigor and innovation that characterize contemporary Portuguese architecture. Our project, in particular, sought to establish a sensitive relationship with Comporta’s natural surroundings, emphasizing scale, materiality, and the continuity between interior and exterior spaces.

The winning project stood out for its ability to reinterpret Comporta’s vernacular architecture, using clean lines, horizontal volumes, and a palette of natural materials that respect the identity of the region. The relationship between interior and exterior was carefully designed, creating fluid spaces that enhance the experience of the climate and surrounding landscape.

Beyond architectural excellence, the Casa na Comporta Award also values innovation, sustainability, and the cultural impact of the submitted proposals. The participation of emerging studios alongside renowned figures such as Souto de Moura, Álvaro Siza Vieira, and Nuno Brandão Costa reinforces the importance of this award as a platform for recognition and visibility.

More than distinguishing a single project, this award celebrates architecture as a tool for enhancing territory and Portuguese identity, consolidating Comporta as a benchmark laboratory for contemporary architecture.
